  • Adventure Guides Holds Open House at the Somerset Hills YMCA

    From 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday Sept. 12, the Somerset Hills YMCA, 140 Mount Airy Rd. in the Basking Ridge section of Bernards, will host an open house for Adventure Guides and their families with the pool and gymnasium open for use. Refreshments will be served. Families are invited to come along and learn more about the various programs offered through Adventure Guides, such as Adventure Guides Dads and the new Y-Trail Program. New member registration will be available.

  • Liberty Corner Fire Company celebrates its 100th anniversary with Family Fun Fair Sept. 25

    The Liberty Corner Fire Company will celebrate 100 years of all-volunteer fire and rescue service to Bernards Township. To help commemorate the occasion, a parade and Family Fun Fair is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 25. The fair will be an old-fashioned family celebration including food, fun, amusement rides, prizes, live entertainment and a DJ. The event will take place immediately after the parade and run until 7 p.m. at the nine-acre Firemen’s Field. The event is open to the public. The parade will kick off the celebration at 11 a.m. from the flagpole in the center of Liberty Corner.

     
  • At Lord Stirling Stable: Canine scavenger hunt rescheduled for Sept. 12

    The Friends of Lord Stirling Stable have rescheduled the 10th Annual “Canine Scavenger Hunt" for Sept. 12. Participating dogs and their owners will seek canine treasures along the trails of Lord Stirling Stable at 256 South Maple Avenue in the Basking Ridge section of Bernards. Registration begins at 4:00 P.M. and the hunt takes place from 5:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. rain or shine. Fee is $10 per dog and handler with a $2 charge for each additional person. Prizes will be awarded to all participants.

     
  • ‘Red for Life’ fundraiser took place this morning at Trump National in Bedminster

    The Greater Somerset County Chapter of the American Red Cross hosted its third annual “Red for Life” breakfast fundraiser on Aug. 24 at Trump National Golf Course in Bedminster, with an estimated 130 guests. The event highlighted the personal stories of individuals who shared how the Red Cross services changed their lives, including one client who talked about how he utilizes the Red Cross' medical tranportation program for his wheelchair-bound wife who has Alzheimer’s disease.

  • Fellowship Village hosts free family fun day featuring Long Hill String Band and Sprinkles the Clown

    Fellowship Village will host its annual free family fun day Sept. 11. The Long Hill String Band will play, and the event will feature a petting zoo, pony rides and an inflatable Giant Slide. Activities include caricatures, face painting, balloon animals, air brushed tattoos, photo favors, Asian name painting and games. Attendees can sing at Karaoke Hour and be entered in a drawing to win a gift card or enjoy a train ride around the Village Green. Shoppers can visit the Village Store or purchase homemade baked goods and crafts from residents.

     
  • At Bernardsville Libarary: Book discussion group — “The Candy Bombers,” by Andrei Cherny

    Bernardsville Library’s book discussion group, Saturday Samplers, will meet at 3:30 p.m. Sept. 11 to discuss "The Candy Bombers: The Untold Story of the Berlin Airlift and America's Finest Hour" (2008) by Andrei Cherny. Led by Readers’ Services Assistant, Evelyn Fischel, Saturday Samplers is a book discussion group dedicated to sampling various kinds of literature, including short stories, nonfiction, new and old novels, and even teen fiction. Its goal is to search out interesting, noteworthy, and sometimes overlooked books. No sign-up is needed to join the discussion. Call the library at 766-0118 for more information.

     
  • Somerset County Business Partnership to host Sheila Oliver at Grain House in Bernards

    Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver will meet with representatives from the Somerset County Business Partnership and the general public at a Legislative Breakfast Forum at 8 a.m. Sept. 10 at the Grain House Restaurant at the Old Mill Inn, Route 202. The forum will provide an opportunity to share ideas and concerns with Trenton leadership. Among the issues to be addressed are the 2 percent property tax cap legislation, the governor's "tool kit" initiative, economic growth and legislative initiatives to make the state more affordable for businesses and residents.
